Dog Insurance & Cat Insurance Review

Finding the Right Pet Care Insurance

I still remember bringing our new kitten home – it was like welcoming a new member to our family. But as soon as we took her in to the vet for her necessary shots, a new reality sunk in – pet health care is becoming very expensive, and the costs of caring for her well into her old age would only be increasing with the years.

Even routine visits to the vet can be very costly whether it’s for your kitty or puppy – and any major illnesses can wreak havoc on a pet owner’s finances in a hurry. That’s why getting good pet insurance policies as soon as possible is critical for ensuring your pet’s health, as well as giving you peace of mind about any financial hardships you may experience as a result of any unexpected illnesses or injuries.

But where do you start? Just entering the terms "pet insurance" yields millions of pages! So I immediately started investigating the various insurance plans out there right now, and began comparing their relative pros and cons. The basic components of conducting a pet insurance comparison in order to find the best policy depends on these critical factors:

Limits on Time and Fees - in other words, there’s an expiration date on the time for your claim regarding your pet’s injury/illness and a cap on the total amount you’ll be reimbursed. The pet insurance industry usually refers to this as a "12 – month policy."

Limits on Fees but No Limits on Time - simply put, you’ll have no constraints on your time period, but there’s a definite cap on the maximum amount of reimbursement.

Limits on Fees per Year – a maximum dollar amount is capped per condition per year. This amount is adjusted and reset every year that your policy is renewed.

Listed below are the typical types of policies that are available:

Standard Care Coverage - a standard policy of preventative care that’s proactive and is designed to diagnose and prevent major medical problems. This policy includes the following:

* Yearly physical exams
* Spaying and neutering
* Flea control via prescription medication
* Vaccinations
* Complete health screen
* Teeth cleaning
* Vaccinations
*  Treatment for Heartworm

Major Medical – similar to health plans for humans, these cover medical procedures that would cost their owners thousands of dollars of out – of – pocket expenses if they didn’t have pet insurance. Some of the more common medical procedures covered under these policies:

* Surgeries
* Removal of foreign objects that are ingested
* Hospitalization
* X – Rays, CT Scans and MRI scans.
* Serious Accidents and illnesses

Cancer Treatment – Yes, dogs and cats can get cancer, but these days they often can be cured through chemotherapy treatments. Similar to treatments for cancer in humans, chemotherapy can often be quite expensive, running into the thousands of dollars for one full course of treatment. This category is among the fastest – growing expenses for many pet insurance companies. These treatments usually include the following procedures:

* Radiation
* Chemotherapy
* Medications for recovery after treatment

Please note – again, like the insurance companies we have for ourselves, there are often exclusions to these policies, so please read the details and terms of conditions for your policy before signing on; some of the usual exclusions include cosmetic procedures, congenital defects and pre – existing conditions.

Remember, before you decide what kind of dog insurance and cat insurance policies to buy, perform a thorough pet insurance comparison with the factors mentioned above, and you’ll enjoy the best pet health insurance that’s appropriate for your best friends!

When your cat is ill, the most important thing you can do is keep him warm, quiet, well fed and watered. Cats dislike noise and bright lights and seek secluded areas when they are sick.
